T. A. is a USPTA certified Tennis Professional who began his tennis career under the tutelage of top New England Tennis Professional Phil Gordon in 1975. He has taught tennis intermittently for over three decades in Connecticut, Arizona, and Florida. Formerly the Head Teaching Professional at Gulf Harbour Golf & Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida, T. A. currently teaches at The Hideaway Country Club.
T. A.’s excellence as a teaching professional, as a player, and as a contributing member of the Fort Myers tennis community was acknowledged by his peers at the USPTA Florida Convention in June, 2013. T. A. was awarded “Pro of The Year” honors for USPTA Florida District 14 (Lee County), “Player of the Year” honors for USPTA Florida’s Men’s 50 Division of the USPTA Grand Prix; and also was the recipient of the “Welch Tennis Winner’s Circle Award” for 2012.
As a player in USTA amateur rankings, T. A. has been ranked as high as No. 2 in singles in the USTA Southwest Section’s Men’s 35 division (2000), No. 2 in USTA Florida’s Men’s 45 Division and No. 30 nationally (2008). In United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) rankings, T. A. has earned singles rankings as high as No. 3 nationally (2009, 2012), and as high as No. 1 in doubles (2012). T. A. also won the American Tennis Association (ATA’s) Men’s 50 National Singles Championship Title in 2012.
As a collegian, T. A. was the first tennis player inducted into the University of Hartford Athletic Hall of Fame on the strength of a New England Championship at No. 2 singles and going 20-0 over a two-year period at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, and posting a 39-6 record in doubles over his career (1983 – 87).
T. A. brings his experience as a Communication Instructor at Arizona State University, and several community colleges in Arizona and Florida to the table. The bottom line is that he teaches tennis like he played it: Leaving everything on the court! Being with his wife Stephanie and golfing are T. A.’s favorite things to do off the court.
